Dream Again

Upon the crease of oak,

knots and kinks entwine.

Rustic lock, held this chest,

but opened now does find.

Dreams of all assortments;

ambitions towering high.

Fantasies in make belief;

no boundaries to comply.

In rhythm senses thrust,

with breaths of merry excite.

Ensnarling, strike the colours,

painting thoughts in bright.

Immeasurable rule wishes,

oh in them, please believe.

As the heart rules the mind,

may aspirations achieve.

Too long, chest unopened,

left silent through desert.

Contained in wooden shell;

those dreams seen avert.

So do not seal that lock;

the chest shall never reign.

For liberation is ecstatic,

when you do dream again.

  1. I have just reread this poem, Brett, so beautifully written. I love poems about dreams. This one of yours has a very musical flow. Love these gorgeous images, so powerful and pictorial:

    “Ensnarling, strike the colours,

    painting thoughts in bright.

    Immeasurable rule wishes,

    oh in them, please believe.”

    These lines make me feel each one of us can be a painter of illusions.

    Love this too:

    “Too long, chest unopened,

    left silent through desert.

    Contained in wooden shell;

    those dreams seen avert.”

    The rhymes in the second and fourth lines give your piece more lyricism.

    And the end has great strength as well. The imperative “do not seal that lock” is perfect to convey such a powerful message.

    BTW, Thank you so much for the follow. I really appreciate this! I am more than humbled that you do this, but there is a much better writer than me, whom I strongly recommend you and all your followers. It is my friend Mario Savioni. His novel “Pickles and Tarts” (very short chapters, easy to read), is a story where 54-year-old Frank has been selected by 19-year-old Nicole through a dating site. Frank looks at Nicoleโ€™s photos on the site and is attracted to her beauty. Nicole tells him she has a boyfriend and is not interested in a romantic relationship. She adds: โ€œItโ€™s fun to talk to different people sometimes.โ€ It is a lovely story of illusion-delusion, dream-reality, non-conformist with the Capitalist system, reflective on love, sex and human relationships in todayโ€™s world. It is profound and highly intriguing: https://savioni.wordpress.com/2019/03/08/pickles-and-tarts-chapter-9/
